The Hialeah based program finished with a 22-8 overall record and reached the Class 4A regional finals before falling to Calvary Christian Academy 69-59. The Eagles, which had a roster filled with D-1 recruits, would go on to win the Class 4A state title. They also won the Class 3A state championship in 2020-2021.

The Bears, on the other hand, had a unit mostly of freshman and sophomores. One of those players was 2025 point guard Anthony Knowles. The talented floor leader has Mater Lakes Academy primed for a bright future. The Bears should build on their playoff experience with Knowles in command.

Per information, the 5-foot-11 prospect averaged 13.6 points, 4.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds and two steals per game. Moreover, he went 34-of-109 (31 percent) from deep and 72 percent from the free-throw line. In an earlier matchup against Calvary Christian Academy, Knowles scored 18 points and hit four 3-pointers while shooting 56 percent overall from the field. He also dished out seven assists to two turnovers.

More on Knowles & Mater Lakes Academy

Knowles dropped a season-high 28 points against Oldsmar Chrisitan (16-9) and hit four 3-pointers while shooting 56 percent overall from the floor. Against Apopka (19-9), Knowles knocked down a season-best six 3-pointers while scoring 23 points. Overall, he hit two or more 3-pointers in eight games. Knowles is developing a consistent perimeter shot to go along with the ability to score off the dribble.

“Anthony on the court is a point guard that doesn’t get rattled”, said assistant head coach Dylan Estock. “He’s always cool, calm, and collected while playing at a high level. He did a great job this year putting his upperclassmen teammates in a position to be successful and was our closer at the end of games. He showed a bunch of poise against the top teams in Miami. Ultimately, he’s just a hardcore competitor at the position.”

Aside from his scoring ability, Knowles is developing into a solid passer with tremendous vision. He dished out 107 assists and had six or more dimes in ten contests. Against Miami Country Day (15-11), Knowles just missed a triple-double with nine assists, ten rebounds, and 14 points. He also recorded four steals, part of his 46 swipes on the season. Knowles will dig in on defense and guard an opponent’s best player.

As an eighth-grader, Knowles played at Miami Slam! Across nine contests, he averaged 11.2 points per game while shooting 39 percent from deep. Overall, he has already played in 32 varsity games. Knowles, along with most of the Titans’ roster, then transferred over to Mater Lakes Academy to play for head coach Eric Rodriguez. His father, Marcos “Shakey” Rodriguez, coached at Miami Senior High School from 1981 to 1995 and won five Florida state titles. Overall, the legendary South Florida figure won 428 games with the Stingarees.

Knowles and company will now look to build their own legacy under the younger Rodriguez. The Bears also have a talented rising junior in 6-foot-4 Christian Reid. The pair could be the pillars that take Mater Lakes Academy to a state championship.

“When they finally recognize my talent, it will be long overdue”, said Knowles.

That time could be now as the foundation has already been set. The Bears are a team to watch and the state of Florida should be on notice.

Mater Lakes Academy is on the rise, and Anthony Knowles is too.
